Space exploration is a controversial topic as people often disagree on its importance. Some people think exploring extraterrestrial life is vital, while others believe investing money in space research is irrelevant since that money can be spent on other ‘more important’ causes instead. Even though space exploration does present certain benefits, I think it is mostly a waste of taxpayer funds as there are numerous issues that can be tackled with the help of extra millions.
On the one hand, space research seems to offer significant benefits, it allows specialists to obtain important information about the outer space, which is a considerable contribution to knowledge humans have about the universe. Secondly, space exploration can potentially help to colonize Mars or discover another habitable planet, a goal that many describe as pivotal because of environmental disasters people witness nowadays. Due to these reasons, spending money on space research onsidered crucial.
On the other hand, there is a popular view that space exploration, as whole, is a waste of money. The main reason why certain people do not consider investment in space research important is the lack of funding in terrestrial problems. The US, for instance, is known for investing billions of dollars annually into space research, but this same country does not have universal healthcare. This is one of many examples of typical issues countries have that could probably be fixed by a proper funding.
In conclusion, although space research provides knowledge and possible benefits for human survival in the future, money spent on it is considered a waste because of various problems on Earth. I firmly believe terrestrial problems must be a priority for any government, and if more money is allocated to dealing with contemporary issues on Earth, people worldwide could see an improvement in quality of life.
