A number of individuals argue about whether spending time in front of TV is harmful or has beneficial effects on children’ s development. Although both perspectives have a valid body of evidence, I tend to think that the benefits of the latter outweigh those of the former.
Proponents of the view that TV has harmful effects on children state several reasons for their statement. The major reason in defense of this argument is that their imagination will not develop as usual. That is due to the fact that sitting and watching TV and seeing images instead of reading books and imagining it may affect their thinking skills. Moreover, watching TV takes up children’s time which could be spent by doing physical activities. That is because television makes children become addicted to itself. For example, nowadays, more and more newborn children are addicted to watching cartoons on TV, so they refuse to go out and play with their friends or to study. Hence, spending time in front of televisions may pose danger to the younger generation, but it’s only the bad side of that trend so the benefits may be greater.
That said, in my opinion, spending time in front of the screen may also have some beneficial features. The main reason for my perspective is that if children spend their time on watching right and educational videos that are suitable to them will be beneficial. That’s because, in the 21st century, it’s easy to find beneficial sources of knowledge for free so parents can use it for children’s profit while preventing them from detrimental content. For example, they can connect their phones to the television which children can use to watch videos and supervise them from a distance. Moreover, spending the majority of their time on watching knowledge can help them widen their mental thinking. That is due to the fact that the TV programmes offer various types of interesting channels that are accorded to show the world and the news can provide some modern knowledge in interesting ways. Thus, spending time in front of the screen possesses some advantages such as providing children with educational knowledge which are suitable to their ages and helps to widen their imagination skills.
In conclusion, I need to admit that there are several drawbacks of spending time watching television such as slower development of mind and taking up more of their time. However, from my perspective, I firmly believe that the advantages of watching TV offers several benefits such as the ability to use internet resources and to widen their knowledge about the world where they haven’t even been.Some people think watching TV is bad for children, while others think that watching TV has more beneficial effects on children.
