A highly controversial issue relates to whether youth who commit major crimes should receive sentences as adults. In this essay, I am going to explain why I agree with this issue.
There are people who argue that the benefits of imposing heavier sentences on young adults considerably outweigh their disadvantages. The main reason for this belief is the increased use of drugsand alcohol among teenagers.
This is because of the lack of parental supervision regarding alcohol and drug abuse, which influences teenagers easily. Furthermore, when children consume banned substances for a long time, it can promote their unawareness. As a result, teenagers will engage in criminal activities to generate income tomaintain their use.
In addition, the idea of imposing heavier sentences on juvenile delinquency is beneficial since it warns others of the consequences they face for threateningthe safety of society. This can be explained by the fact that the courts impose stricter punishments on young adults by focusing on serious crimes, such as theft, burglary, and murder. Consequently, teenagers become awareof how their illegal acts pose huge risks to human lives.
To sum up, for the reasons I have mentioned—the high consumption of drugs and alcohol among teenagers and the need to help them become aware oftheir actions—I maintain my agreement with this issue. Given the situation, governments should impose encouraging policies.
