Some people believe that the main purpose of a university is to prepare students for the world of work, while others argue that its true value lies in the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
The role of universities ought to play in society is a hotly debated issue .While some maintain that higher educations exists primarily to equip graduates with job-ready skills, others insist that its deeper purpose is to foster curiosity for it’s own sake .This essay will examine both positions ,but from my point of view that two aims are far from mutually exclusive.
On the one hand ,there is a compelling case to be made for a vocational approach. In increasingly labour demanded world job ready skills highly matters , which means a well-rounded students should put more attention for enhancement of their skills in order to find well paid work. Moreover , industry-relevant skills assist to them to be a skilled professional in their work by avoiding some mistakes . For example ,if person knows hisher work well it can help them be best in curtain sphere which lead to the career prospects.
On the another hand ,reducing universiry to mere training sells it short. Critics of vocational approach contend that true value of university knowledge is to cultivate students critical thinking, creativity and intellectual independence .It means that graduates should develop for its own sake ,as a result there will be more versatile skills and occur more curiosity .
In conclusion ,from my point of view both of them a false dichotomy because it would be more beneficial if students strike a balance between both aims because the most valuable education does not force a coise between the two. As a result , producing graduates who are both employable and intellectually students can be far more vital .
