There is a great divide as to what people think about the main goal of university. Some people believe that the aim of study is to help graduates find better jobs, while others hold that there are many other benefits of education for people and society. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument in detail and provide evidence as to why universities are important for more than just a career.
On the one hand, some individuals tend to think that university is for getting a good job because specialized knowledge is necessary for most professional roles. Clearly, many students choose their subjects based on how much money they can earn in the future. To illustrate, a student who completes a degree in accounting has a better chance to find a stable position in a large company. Because of this, the main focus of a university should be on practical skills for work.
On the other hand, there are people who deem that university offers wider advantages as/since it helps individuals to become more intelligent and social. However, if a person only learns how to do one job, they might not be ready for different life problems. Thus, studying at university develops critical thinking and communication skills. For example, history or philosophy students learn how to analyze information, which is very useful for every member of society in daily life.
In conclusion, although some are of the opinion that the primary goal of university is to get a qualification for a career on account of high competition for jobs, others, myself included, are convinced that education is better for the general development of a person due to the fact that it helps both the individual and the whole society to grow
