Some people believe that they should retain all of their income without paying taxes to their country. I disagree with this notion that individuals should not pay taxes to the state. The government operates the country by collecting taxes, and paying taxes is our moral duty. Furthermore, failing to pay taxes can create serious difficulties.
The tax money collected by the government is used to fund basic amenities, provide various services to citizens, and support government administration projects, the operation of correctional facilities, defense systems, and many other essential services. Thus, it is not incorrect to say that ‘taxes run a country.’ A prime example of this is our government healthcare service, where no one needs to pay for treatment because it is funded by the taxes of the citizens. All essential services stem from tax revenues, which are crucial for enhancing the quality of life in a country.
On the other hand, failing to pay taxes can significantly impact a country’s revenue generation, especially in my home country, Bangladesh. If citizens do not pay taxes regularly, the government will be unable to meet our basic needs. One of the most critical sectors is our defense system, which requires substantial funding. If a state fails to provide proper facilities, there is a risk of losing freedom. Therefore, without tax revenue, a country cannot sustain itself.
In conclusion, I reiterate my belief that it is the duty of every citizen to contribute taxes, and the government should use these funds appropriately for the public interest.
