Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 7+: Some people choose to have their first child at an older age. What are the reasons? Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

For some reasons, people delay parenthood, preferring to have a child when they get a little bit older. While there are some advantages to this trend, I believe that the disadvantages outweigh the benefits.

There are several reasons why people choose to be parents at an older age. The primary one is that they want to build a career and be financially free while they are still young, when they have more energy and motivation to work to provide for their future family’s needs. Moreover, some individuals consider it more meaningful if they spend their youth enjoying freedom and do not rush to build a family.

On the one hand, it can seem more beneficial to delay parenthood according to the reasons mentioned above, as it will lead to some advantages in life. For example, when parents have their first child later than the average, they are more likely to be financially stable to support their child, and even save a trust fund for them. Also, their knowledge about how to care for a baby is going to be wider, and they do not get into depression or panic as commonly as young parents do.

However, on the other hand, having a child at an older age can also have significant disadvantages. Firstly, it affects children’s health, because the period of pregnancy becomes more difficult at an older age as the human body starts to weaken. Secondly, as parents are much older, being energized and mentally stable to give their child a carefree childhood is difficult. This is because children naturally have a playful behavior, and dealing with it can be a challenging task for them.

In conclusion, while there are certainly some benefits to having a first child at an older age, such as better financial support and wider knowledge, I believe that the drawbacks far outweigh these advantages for some reasons, like health problems and tough challenges.
