Automobiles are often considered to have more drawbacks rather than benefits. I slighly disagree with such a statement. In the following passages I am aiming to list both advantages and disadvantages of the car.
From an individualistic standpoint car usage makes our daily life easier as it prioritise autonomy and comfort compared to other forms of transportation. For example, by driving a car, people may have private conversations, listen to their own music and sing. Moreover, human beings can adjust inside temperature, which is often not possible by using public transportation. Another prominent argument in favor of cars would be the notion of independence. Namely, car drivers decide when and where they wish to go. Other means of transportation are usually sticky and dependent on schedules or weather conditions. In contrast, automobiles could be used anytime regardless of the weather.
Nevertheless, car usage presumes certain drawbacks one most likely to face. Specifically, such motor vehicles are often associated with high maintenance costs. For example, cars require either electricity or gasoline, which in both cases lead to expenses for the consumer. In addition, some cars require oil and filter change on a yearly basis or after certain mileage. In terms of environment, autos produce moderate amount of CO2 emmisions, in turn leading to air pollution. Ultimately, the quality of our lives declines, because of the aforementioned phenomena.
In conclusion, I believe cars to have more benefits than drawbacks. However, this balance could be further outweighted by advantages if electric vehicles substitute combustion engine cars, thereby decreasing air pollution.
