People often have to face through tough challenges and hardships in their lives, most of which often leads to major changes in their lives. For some people, change is a welcomed event, while to others, it is seen as a burden because they are afraid to go out of their comfort zone. I believe that change should be seen as a positive event because it allows people to grow and improve on themselves.

One of the many reasons people decide to avoid confronting change is the fear of leaving one’s comfort zone. When people are familiar to their surroundings and cohorts, they feel some sort of comfort which they can’t exactly experience anymore when they are forced to change their lives, or when society changes on its own. Consequently, they want to constantly feel this comfort and will do anything other than accepting the inevitable. I had this feeling too when moving on from my close friends in elementary to meeting new friends in high school.

However, with the addition of change in people’s lives, it is also a form of self-improvement. It has been proven countless times that growth does not come from a place of comfort, but rather from experiencing and overcoming new challenges or different environments. Indeed, while change does have an initially intimidating appearance, by experiencing new things, people allow themselves to gather new skills suited for different situations. As a result, they will be much more developed compared to others who decide to reject it. Referring back to my example, moving on to high school allowed me to obtain better social skills and it also allowed me to be more knowledgeable on many more school subjects. If I had chosen to stay at my current level of education at that time, I wouldn’t have managed double my friends and understand more essential skills, even though it wasn’t a completely fun experience.

So in conclusion, changes in society and people’s lives are sometimes avoided due to the unwillingness of people to move out of their comfort zone. However, change should be viewed as a positive event in people’s lives because it gives them a chance to grow and change to be a better person.
