Nowadays, there are plenty of discussions whether it is better for children to learn a foreign language as a crucial component of their childhood education or it is just a waste of our valuable time which could be dedicated to much more precious things, such as profession-oriented subjects. I reckon that learning an additional language in addition to your mother tongue is an essential thing that most of kids should figure out.
To begin with, while learning a second language as a child, those may become bilingual which can lead to misunderstanding of a kid which language should be used in a particular situation. Honestly, in my opinion, it may occur if the child is not taught properly where he/she should use a particular language and the system of their education which is not adjusted special for them. What is more, many people believe that it would be better for children to learn some vocational subjects where they could find out vast variety of information they would need in the future and which would be more educational and worth time. It’s also known that many people after learning a second language at school cannot even make a sentence in it and speak. It happen due to the fact that they did not just aimed their learning to practicing of it’s fluency, so that means that it would be more valuable to spend that time on some technical learning. It may occur because of the technical way of those people’s thinking that would show that the humanitarian way of studying is not for them.
Whereas some people believe that studying a new language broadens own minds and increases level of intellect. Honestly, I may tell it from my own experience, as I’ve been studying foreign languages from my childhood, when I went to kindergarten and had some English classes then which helped improving my critical thinking in addition to logical. Furthermore, a second language may improve communication skills of a children which will help the kid in the future to be more fluent and open-minded to the world and the humankind, as well.
In conclusion, I believe that the attitude to the fact whether it is better for child’s education to learn a second language in the childhood as a must or dedicating it to other subjects which could probably relate to the technical one, depends on the background of the person and his/her view of the world. As I have already mentioned, I support the idea of learning of it due to it’s elaborating of the mind.
