People have different views about whether professional athletes should receive a huge amount of income or not. While I accept that there are some valid reasons for their opinion, I disagree with the idea that athletes are paid more than they deserve.
The main point is inequality caused by athletes’ huge salaries compared to underpaid crucial professions. People in essential roles such as teaching, healthcare and emergency services are often paid significantly less money despite their vital contribution to society. Consequently, more people, especially young individuals, would pursue wealth and high paid jobs instead of working in essential fields. This decreases the quality of public services, and there will be shortage of professional staff.
However, athletes have a short career span. This means that as they age, they face physical limitations and lose their strength, which prevents them from performing adequately. Physical risks along with mental issues would put their career at major risk. If these uncertainties happen to them, they will not be able to play in sport competitions to receive decent income. They should be paid highly as a form of support for the rest of their lives.
Furthermore, becoming an expert in sport majors requires perseverance and years of training. Many athletes are highly talented and hardworking, so they should be supported and provided with well-equipped environment. After practicing for a long time and achieving the needed qualifications, they participate in championships or matches. By selling game tickets and merchandise, they generate a great amount of revenue, not only for themselves, but also for many other people, who work in advertising or entertainment industries. Therefore, they are beneficial for other members of society.
In conclusion, although athletes are paid more than some crucial jobs, but because of their short career span, their hard work and the benefits of their performance, they are worthy of the money they make.
