Some people often prefer to live in a house while others choose apartment as their home accommodation. In my opinion, however, living in a house gives people better quality of life than flats.
To start with, houses have several advantages which can improve the quality of life. Firstly, house can give people more space and privacy. That means each member of family has a separate room and personal freedom. For example, children can study well without any disturbance at home. Secondly, the outdoor space of the house improves the quality of life. People who live in a house often have backyards, private garden, or swimming pool. This gives opportunity to plant vegetables, grow flowers and enjoy themselves without going out. Thirdly, house gives people a chance to customize their own property. Unlike apartments, they can renovate their space whenever they want, and they can also add extra room to their building. Finally, buying house means long term investment for people. Once people buy house, they can pass their property to future generation as family heritage. Furthermore, it is true that land becomes more valuable over time and if they buy house, it means they invest in useful property.
However, there are also some disadvantages of living in a house. One issue of house could be high maintenance costs. Once people start living in a house, they have to take several responsibilities for the building. They should repair roofs, take care of garden, and be aware of plumbing repairs. This means they must be ready for huge expense. Another issue is the cost of the house. House is much more expensive compared to apartment. People who live in a house have to pay higher for utility bills, insurance and other expenses. Furthermore, houses are often located far from the city centre. That means people have to commute to their work with more fuel costs. Also, public transport could also be problem for commuting.
In conclusion, I believe house can give people long term investment with more opportunities to live the life to the full.
