Individual preferences lead some people to argue that spending their holidays in resorts are convenient and enjoyable. While others claim that travelling around the country and observe how the people live, get to know their customs and traditions and cuisine are more preferable. From my perspective, interacting with the local community while on holiday is more beneficial and makes the visit meaningful. Some reasons will be discussed in this essay.
We live in an age when many of us consider that visiting new places brings positive outlook in life. I think this is undeniable because this gives the opportunity to see the beauty of other country and get accustomed the way people live. For instance, visiting tourist spots in the Gold Coast where locals start their day early morning. Many cafès open as early as 6:00 in the morning and closed at 2:30 in the afternoon. This kind of situation amazes tourist from Asia.
Moreover, it is also worth taking that getting to know the local’s customs and traditions to recognise uniqueness and understand cultural differences. This will lead people to respect and gain further understanding others’ behaviour. For instance, people in Asia tend to bow to show respect to others but for foreigners handshake bestows polite gestures. Apart from that, trying the traditional cuisine not just adds a remarkable memory of the visit but also gives the opportunity to enjoy new and exquisite taste. For example, an Australian friend, who shares lamington in one of the gatherings I attended, brings awe to the guests.
Taking everything into consideration, I believe that exploring around a new place and getting exposed to new ways of living bring more joy and excitement. In addition, organised holiday in resorts are expensive and offers limited and hectic activities.
