Whilst many argue that economic growth is essential to eliminating poverty and hunger, others believe that it is responsible for environmental degradation and must be restrained. This essay aims to examine both viewpoints and presents my perspective.
On the one hand, economic growth hightlights its significant role in reducing poverty and hunger. As economies expand, leading to the ever-increasing job opportunities, this drives up income levels and improves living standards. For instance, China and India has ultilized their rapidly developing economies to lift millions out of poverty and hunger over recent decades. Furthermore, with increased government revenue from economic expansion, more resources can be allocated to public services such as healthcare, education, and public transportation systems. As a result, this financially support low-income communities. Additionally, revenues from economic growth can be invested in technological searching, which potentially provides innovative solutions for food production with affordable prices, thus helping to adress global hunger.
On the other hand, environmental issues stemming from economic growth are inevitable. industrial activities can lead to deforestation, air and water pollutions, which detrimentally cause climate change and biodiversity loss. Besides, earth’s finite sources are exhausted on the grounds of excessive mineral exploiting, leadings to energy deficiency.
Considering both perspectives, i wholeheartedly believe that economic growth is crucial for alleviating poverty and hunger, but it must be environmentally sustainable.
We should prioritize eco-friendly strategies by investing in renewable energy and sustainable agriculture. This approach can ensure that economic growth benefits society without compromising the health of our planet, allowing future generations to thrive.
