The debate over the impact of economic development on the environment and human remains a multifaceted issue in contemporary society. While some people condemn that increasing wealth would eliminate poverty and starvation, others argue that developing the economy would harm the environment and should be restricted. This essay will explore both perspectives before presenting my own viewpoint.
On the one hand, economic growth can lead to environmental degradation. The most prominent reason is the exploitation of natural resources. For example, the paper industry would destroy a bunch of trees in order to convert wood into paper, consequently destroying ecosystems. Furthermore, transportation and trading activities would increase greenhouse gases significantly which will affect global warming and eventually humans will also lose their habitat.
On the other hand, economic growth plays a crucial role in enhancing poverty and hunger problems. By improving the economic recession of the nation, it would provide more job opportunities for citizens, which means their quality of life would also be upgraded. Vietnam, for instance, has collaborated with multinational companies in order to build factories which will generate millions of jobs that provide stable incomes for both workers and professionals, lifting a lot of people out of poverty. Moreover, increasing wealth has enabled many countries to invest in farming techniques and provide various sources of food. People with stable incomes will have the ability to afford foods for themselves and families, enriching a nation’s situation in general.
In conclusion, both perspectives provide valid points. However, I believed that economic growth would bring both positive and negative aspects. Therefore, the government should promote green manufacturing and trade practices to balance economic development with environmental protection.
