Band 9: Some people say free time activities for children should be organized by parents. Others say that children should be free to choose what they do in their free time. Discuss both views and give your opinion

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There are some who claim that leisure time for children should be arranged by parents, while others believe that children should be given the freedom to decide what they want in their unstructured time. While the idea of total independence bears some truth, I believe it is the parent-led approach that is most sensible.

On the one hand, some people argue that children should foster independence and do everything by themselves. When young people are given unstructured free time, they are forced to make their own choices and explore their own interests, whether through reading or independent play. This freedom develops vital decision-making skills and teaches them to take responsibility for how they spend their time. For instance, a child who is allowed to choose their own activities learns to manage boredom creatively, which stimulates self-expression and problem-solving abilities that are essential for adult life. As a result, giving children control over their leisure time is a powerful way to shape them into self-reliant and independent individuals.

On the other hand, I strongly believe that parental guidance is necessary for a childs safety and health. Children often lack the maturity to make the right choices. Without control, complete freedom can lead to negative habits, such as excessive screen time or a sedentary lifestyle. By contrast, structured activities organized by parents, like sports or music lessons, help young people spend their time with benefit. For instance, a child who goes to a football club stays safe under adult supervision and learns discipline. Therefore, parents organization is crucial to a child’s energy into constructive habits.

In conclusion, while giving children the autonomy to choose their activities is beneficial for fostering independence, I strongly believe that parental guidance is necessary to protect them from a sedentary lifestyle and ensure their safety. Ultimately, a structured approach managed by adults is more beneficial for a child’s development.
