Some individuals contend that History is one of the most vital school subjects; however, the other part of the public consider that subjects like Science and Technology have greater importance. From my perspective, compulsory education should include both of the fields to foster development of society.
History is an essential subject where students can increase their sense of identity. In Taiwan, for example, in history class, teachers usually give lectures about wars that took place in Taiwan and some celebrities contributing a lot to the nation. In this way, students may learn the importance of local history, evoking national pride among themselves, which can result in social cohesion. Therefore, with the help of the history class, a country can approach a magnificent goal, as its citizens unite together.
Nonetheless, depending thoroughly on solidarity rarely makes a nation powerful. Instead, advanced technology plays an important role in many countries. United States, for instance, has prioritized investing technology field over others, which propels numerous technological corporations including Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft, leading to a flourished society in America. Furthermore, China, which has challenged America in recent years, has made huge progress in various industries, such as AI, electronics, and car. The reason for the resurgence of economic in China is that Chinese people engage more in inventing instead of manufacturing for other nations.
It is obvious that history and science are integral parts to a country, so I suggest a hybrid model would be the answer to mitigate the argument among the public. Although history can increase the sense of patriotism among citizens, countries cannot benefit merely from mental support. Meanwhile, if well-developed technology results in internal power struggle, there are no advantages for nations either. In contrast, the government should highlight the importance of science and history simultaneously during mandatory education, avoiding drawbacks that potentially exist.
In my opinion, it is wrong to emphasize either history or science. Instead, the government should encourage development in both fields to make a country great.
