It is often believed by a section of the society, that elderly people have a miserable life in the new aged world. On the contrary, some others believe that the modern age has a lot more to offer to old aged people as compared to the past. In my opinion this new modern era does leave some ageing elders feeling aloof.
There is no doubt about the fact that families and communities were more closely knit in the past as compared to the present. One of the major probable reason behind this change could be less individualistic recreational opportunities for people to indulge in. Hence, they were compelled to meet their near and dear ones more often. In other words, people rarely preferred to stay alone which resulted in more time spent meeting face to face with family and friends. For example: In the current modern scenario, people choose to interact with their peers online on social media websites like facebook, snapchat or instagram. They find it less time consuming and taxing. Very low percentage of elderly people are well acquainted with these websites and applications. Hence, there is a huge possibility of them feeling isolated or lonely. This is also widening the gap between most grandparents and grand children in the recent times.
On the other hand, with new aged technology, there is immense advancement in healthcare treatments which has increased the life expectancy of human race at large. This means that people do not lsoe their lives due to lack of proper medical care, Moreover, chronic illnesses can be detected and treated timely saving the elderly from the physical and mental stress that accompanies these diseases. Additionally, modern day equipments for senior population such as wheelchair, walkers, old age friendly toilet seats etc. have significantly made life more pleasant and enjoyable for the old age people.
In conclusion, technology and development across globe has surely made a opositive impact on the life of senior citizens. However, the value of human relations and the significance of spending time with each other in person has noticeably reduced too affecting the socio emotional aspect of old age people.
