Some individuals argue that music is an effective way to find something in common among people from different cultures. I strongly agree with this idea because musical preferences are individual, and every person has their own interests. Finding a person who shares the same musical interests is a pleasant feeling.
People who do not agree with this view could say that musical tastes divide generations. Nowadays, there are many types of music, and most teenagers and young people listen to trending songs. However, when it comes to their grandparents or people from different generations, there could be misunderstandings. Additionally, language is a barrier between countries, as some people think that lyrics are the most important and meaningful part of a song. There are music lovers who do not even understand the lyrics because they do not know the language in which the song is sung.
The main reason why I agree with this opinion is that music is a very powerful bridge between not only generations but also cultures. People who love listening to music can learn different languages and learn about other countries’ cultures by listening to songs. As a result, they may find it interesting to communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds. Furthermore, music also creates shared experiences. At concerts and music festivals, thousands of strangers sing and dance together, regardless of their age or nationality. From my point of view, songs do not need translation because rhythm and melody carry emotion even when the lyrics are not understood.
To sum up, those who disagree may find it unusual to communicate with others just because they share the same musical preferences. However, I would say that music is capable of unbelievable things, from helping people learn languages and understand new cultures to strengthening relationships among family members and friends.
