Partaking in group extracurriculars is widely encouraged for children. However, some say that adolescents must strive for independence instead. This essay agrees that motivating the youth in doing group work would be much more beneficial instead.
Nowadays, there have been some talks about whether or not children should join in group activities. Participating in such works helps develop strong soft skills amongst children– that is to say; having this attribute enables one to interact effectively with others and showcase a solid sense of leadership. A recent example is how employers hire those who possess immense people skills as they are more likely to experience significant growth in their field.
On the other hand, many believe that children should learn on their own instead as it enforces them to have a freethinking mindset. While it is good to be unique and it is what corporations are looking for, without having a high cognitive empathy, this individualistic approach would make things complicated for the person to personally connect with others. For instance, submitting a group project where you’ve done most of the work by yourself loses its distinctness, it does not define your team as a whole and the essence of teamwork is gone.
To conclude, while it is good to stand out and present different opinions, you won’t be able to project the same if you lack the interpersonal skills. You are highly likely to succeed when working with others because you are to face different personalities, hence further improving yourself as a person and in the workforce.
