In the present day, especially in large cities, many parents encourage their children to participate in various organizations and activities during their leisure time. Parents believe that this involvement offers numerous benefits, such as enhancing their children’s skills and abilities. Conversely, some parents think that children should have the freedom to spend their free time as they choose. This essay will discuss both perspectives and offer my opinion on the matter.
On one hand, parents have a responsibility to support their children’s development. In cities, there are many opportunities for parents to select activities that can help develop their children’s skills. Engaging in organizations or activities can improve communication skills and expand social networks. For example, my neighbor Sinta has two children who consistently excel in storytelling competitions. Her children have become very confident English speakers because she enrolled them in various courses and activities.
On the other hand, some parents believe that children should not be forced into activities. They argue that allowing children to pursue their own interests can lead to greater personal fulfillment and achievement. For example, at SMA 3, students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities that match their passions. As a result, these students are happier and more successful in their chosen fields because they are following their own interests.
In conclusion, while participating in organized activities can help build skills such as public speaking and confidence, it is also important for parents to allow children the freedom to explore their own interests. In my opinion, a balanced approach is best; parents should offer guidance and opportunities but also respect their children’s preferences and passions.
