Each person has their own style of clothes that they like to wear. Some people say that we can learn about other people’s personalities by looking at their style of clothes. On the other hand, others say we should not judge people by their type of fashion. For instance, I always wear clothes with bright colors and clothes with unique designs on them, so that people judge me as an extrovert and also a feminine girl. However, in reality, I am an introvert and not that feminine. From this example, we can see that people’s personalities and what person they are like cannot be judged by their appearance or the impression they give us.
Clothing can impact first impressions, but this influence doesn’t necessarily reflect an individual’s true character. The way you dress also shows your first impression at work. If you dress properly and politely, people will think that you are a professional and responsible person. On the other hand, if you wear a crop top or a short skirt to work, people will think you do not respect the company, because of inappropriate clothing.
Although clothing can have an impact on other people’s first impression of us, it cannot describe us completely. You cannot judge people by the way they wear their clothes. You still need to look at their character, habits, ability, attitude, or respect for others. To illustrate, you meet two different people in the office. The first is the one that dressed neatly in the office. Then, the second person is the one who dressed not that properly, but still acceptable. The one you think is a kind person is probably the first person. Still, in reality, the first one is a bit arrogant to others and not that hard-working. Meanwhile, the second person is a diligent and responsible type of person. That is why we cannot judge others by their looks.
Lastly, even if clothing can affect our impression of others, we still cannot judge other people just by their appearance. Like a quote “Do not judge the book by its cover”. This quote means that we should not judge people just by their outside, but also from the inside. So, we have to know someone better first, before we can believe him.
