In today’s society, many families are formed not only by parents and children but also by their pets, with cats and dogs being the most common living in households. While some people argue that canines are better pets because they are considered faithful to their owners, others believe felines are more appropriate, as they are significantly independent. I contend that neither cats nor dogs are better pets because it depends on people’s likes and dislikes about the animals’ attitudes with their owners.
Some individuals consider dogs the ideal pet because they are very faithful to the families that keep them at home. Dogs are considered man’s best friend and this is based on the attitudes of these loving animals. They always express their feelings to their owners and try to be close to them, moving their tales to show their happiness. For example, statistics have shown that, in the western world, dogs are preferred over cats and are often adopted as one more member of the family.
However, others believe that cats are better pets due to their inherent independent behaviors. Having a cat at home is very convenient for those who does not want to have much work with their pets, as felines do not demand much attention from their owners. Consequently, most cats only need to be fed, and then they walk around the house without even noticed. Unlike dogs, cats are the most preferred pets in the Asian world, such as East and Southeast Asia.
In conclusion, while some argue dogs are better pets, others consider cats as better. I maintain that it all depends on people’s likes on specific animal behaviors, having preference for faithful animals or independent ones. Most importantly, the crucial aspect of choosing a pet is the possibility of giving them a proper existence, as cats live comfortably in any type of household but most dogs usually need to live in a house with a backyard.
