Public transportation is said by certain people to be the most fundamental part of a modern city, while others believe that there are more important requirements rather than just public transport. From my perspective, though the former view may be reasonable, I will argue that other aspects may be more essential than public transport.
On the one hand, people think public transport is the first requirement of a metropolis owing to monetary and environmental reasons/ its money-saving and sustainable natures. To explain, public transport is able to accommodate a large number of residents,which may reduce demand for private vehicles.Therefore,the amount of emissions from those may decrease, which contributes to an eco-friendly metropolis in the long run.For instance,cities like Tokyo or New York have invested in subway system, which not only ease transportation but also reduce environmental harm. Moreover,the cost for fuel and maintenance of public transport may be less significant compared to that of private vehicles. At the same time, efficient public transport may allow people to travel in less time to any particular destination in the city.
However,public transport alone does not define a modern city. Other factors such as healthcare or education are equally important. Without high-quality healthcare, the citizen’s well-being is likely to worsen, thus affecting the work productivity and the city’s economy in the long run.For instance, if residents feel like the healthcare services of the metropolis can not fulfill their needs, they may consider moving to a different one. This leads to the reduction of employees, which can directly affect economic stability. Moreover, education is also needed. A city with good schools and universities may attract skilled students and professionals, contributing to long-term development. Furthermore, urban planning is an aspect that cannot be missed out. By separating industrial areas from houses as well as investing in well-planned infrastructure such as clean water or electricity systems, the city government may reduce pollution and provide a better life for citizens.
To sum up, although public transport is essential, a modern city must also focus on other aspects including healthcare, education and infrastructure.
