Many people argue that the fashion industry has generated adverse impacts on the environment as this sector promotes increasing shopping demand all the time. From my perspective, I absolutely agree with this statement due to several reasons.
First of all, it is widely acknowledged that the booming shopping sector has immensely encouraged customers, especially teenagers, to buy clothes more and more. This is mainly because the youngsters who serve as the primary buyers, are usually immature customers and they have less financial pressure compared to other age groups. As a result, these shoppers tend to allocate the majority of their income to their own preferences and demands. Once attracted and manipulated by fashion advertising, young customers are easily inclined to buy new clothes without genuine needs, fostering a toxic culture where individuals are judged by their appearance with fashionable clothing, which ultimately drives up global consumption.
Furthermore, this trend adversely affects the environment by releasing a greater volume of toxic chemicals during manufacturing processes, eventually damaging the ecosystem. This kind of waste ultimately contaminates water supplies and the oceans, leading to the death of marine creatures and a shortage of fresh water for land animals involving human. The more people buy clothes, the worse the environment becomes. Not only does the fashion industry cause serve pollution, but it also exerts a directly negative influence on wild animals, as producing processes require vast natural resources. For instance, many luxury brands value exclusive limited items made from rare natural materials, such as crocodile leather or bird feathers, resulting in a decline in population and the extinctions of many species.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that various negative effects are caused by the accelerating development of fashion industry, leading to a toxic fashion culture as well as severe environmental degradation. Therefore, practical regulations should be enacted to minimize the repercussions of this pressing issue.
