Some people are of the claim that art-related subjects should not be compelled to high school students. Personally, I totally agree with this suggestion based on some major reasons that are explained in this essay.
To begin, with the non-mandatory art subject, learners who are not interested in the drawing field can have more free time to concentrate on their strong area, which then can persuade them to gain a more thorough understanding of the subject matter. For example, a survey conducted by Modern Learning identified that students who were not involved in their unwilling subjects such as painting, music, etc had 10% higher scores compared to those who were forced to study these subjects. Furthermore, allowing students to choose their electives is also a way to respect their ability to make choices for their education, therefore leading to more engagement in their subject at schools.
Also, requiring art-related subjects meant that schools needed to spend more money on specialized teachers, facilities, and so on. Thus schools that have limited budgets might be better off having this spending on core subjects or other services that are beneficial for their students. For instance, instead of providing art subjects to every class, schools can focus more on improving the library facilities. It not only makes accessing educational materials easier but also can raise the student’s passion for books.
In conclusion, based on some persuasive rationales that I proposed, I believe that subjects relating to art should be optional, which then can have a positive impact on not only students but also on schools.
