“Should art subjects like painting or drawing be compulsory for high school students” is a highly debated topic across various platforms. From my perspective, art subjects should be compulsory in high schools because it can help students improve their soft skills as well as creating a good environment for talented people in art genres.
These days, subjects related to art should be compulsory because they can help develop soft skills in high schools. Firstly, learning arts can enhance students’ creativity through many activities like drawing some pictures or coloring popular paintings from well-known artists. Moreover, there are many tasks while learning art subjects that need to be executed by lots of people, so that it can help students improve their team-work skills. For example, when students draw something, they need to do a lot of things like generating ideas, shaping what they want to draw, and many more tasks that need team-working to get good results. Another skill that students can gain from learning arts is design thinking, which can be developed while drawing, and it is really important for students who want to be designers in the future.
If art subjects are compulsory, it can create good environments for people who are good in arts. To be more specific, in high school, there are some people who are treated as hidden gems that are really good at art genres, but they might not have enough spaces and opportunities to leverage their skills. So, if they have chances to learn art subjects, they might understand more consciously about their talent and find ways to improve it. For instance, an extremely popular rapper in Vietnam called ICD did not know about his talent before applying to high school, and when he learned arts as compulsory subjects at his school, he developed his artistic skills quickly and became famous. Ultimately, in an environment where art subjects are compulsory, people who are good at arts can have some friends that have similar passion in arts, so they might be friends and help each other develop themselves.
In conclusion, even though there are some opposite opinions about making arts as compulsory subjects, the benefits they offer are unequivocal. Art subjects play a pivotal role in developing students’ soft skills and making good environments to grow up talents.
