Whether animals should be used as experimental subjects has already become a hot topic among the public. Some people claim that it is too cruel and thereby should be prohibited, while others believe that it can boost the advancement of medical science. As for me, I take side with the latter point of view for the following reasons.
On the one hand, there are strong reasons to support the existence of animal experiment. What should be prioritized is that it can promote the development/advancement of medical science because animals, especially mammals, share many similarities such as body structure and genetic makeup with human beings, which means that their responses to certain drugs can be used to judge whether these medications can be put into mass production or still need further improvement. Besides, directly using human individuals as experimental subjects has been banned in many countries due to moral and ethical reasons, leaving animal test the only option, at least for this moment.
On the other hand, it should be admitted that there exist some drawbacks when it comes to animal experiment. To begin with, the poor lab animals including rabbits, frogs and guinea pigs will be injected with different of viruses, even some of them are fatal, and will be vivisected for the sake of medical observation, which is cruel and merciless from any perspective. In addition, thanks to the booming technology, computer simulation may provide human a possibility in the near future, without harming any living being.
Taking all factors into consideration, we can draw a conclusion that animal test can be beneficial to the overall development of the whole community and it would be better off if we can alleviate the pain of test animals.
