The question of whether genetically modified crops plays a crucial role in feeding the growing population or it can pose high-risks to environment remains a contentious issue. This essay will analyse both sides of the argument before concluding with my opinion.
On the one hand, individuals who support genetically modified food (GMO) argue it is essential for feeding the world’s rapidly growing population. They claim that GMO crops can produce higher yields and grow faster than ordinary plants, which helps farmers increase food supply on limited land. Additionally, many GMO varieties are engineered to resist pests, diseases, and harsh weather conditions such as drought. This reduces crop losses and makes food production more stable, especially in regions where climate change and food shortages are serious problems.
On the other hand, it can be potentially dangerous for the environment, including human organisms as well as the biodiversity. For instance, genetically modified products (GMO) often consist high level of chemicals, making them resist for pests and diseases. As a result, large proportion of them loss their nutritional components and natural form. Therefore, their long-term impact on human health remains uncertain, which raises legitimate concerns, from an environmental perspective, genetically altered products (GMO) may threaten biodiversity by disrupting natural ecosystems, leading to poor quality of nature.
To summarize, while genetically modified products increase valid concerns regarding health and environmental risks, their potential to address global food shortages can not be ignored. I firmly believe that with strict control and responsible use, GMOs can play a crucial role in ensuring food security in the future.
