There is an ongoing debate about whether governments should allocate substantial funds to space exploration or prioritize pressing issues on Earth, such as climate change and poverty. While space exploration offers several advantages, I firmly believe that more critical problems continue to emerge on our planet.
On the one hand, space exploration can be highly beneficial for a country. Currently, there is limited information about space available in scientific literature and online resources. If a government were to invest significantly in this field, it could enhance its global reputation and attract international attention. Moreover, from a financial perspective, the information gathered through space missions can be sold to other nations in the future, generating substantial revenue. For instance, in 1998, a major space-related problem was deemed too costly for most countries to address. Finland, however, invested heavily in solving it and, fifteen years later, began profiting by selling the resulting data to other governments. This illustrates why investing in space exploration can be economically advantageous.
On the other hand, Earth faces severe challenges in the 21st century. Climate change, for example, is having a devastating impact on ecosystems, with animals dying and plants suffering due to water-related issues. If governments redirected some of their space exploration budgets toward tackling climate change, countless species and ecosystems would benefit. Another critical issue is poverty. Rising unemployment has led to widespread poverty, and those in positions of power should focus on alleviating this suffering. Many parents cannot afford to send their children to school due to exorbitant educational costs. For example, in 2025, it was reported that 45% of the population in Uzbekistan lives in poverty.
In conclusion, I believe that governments should prioritize solving problems on Earth, as space exploration is currently less urgent. By investing in social welfare and environmental protection, a country can simultaneously improve its economic standing and international reputation.
