It is often argued that governments should use taxpayers’ money to search for life on other planets, while some people believe that public funds should be spent on solving problems on Earth. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why I believe governments should focus on solving issues on own planets first.
On the one hand, many people believe that agencies should invest in searching for life on other planets because it supports the development of science and technology. Space exploration encourages scientists to innovate and create new technologies, which improve healthcare, communication, and transportation. Furthermore, studying other planets expands our understanding of the universe, helping humans prepare for future challenges while showing us how the universe works. For example, technologies originally developed for space missions, such as satellite communication and GPS systems, are now widely used in everyday life and benefit millions of people.
On the other hand, I believe governments should spend taxpayers’ money solving problems on Earth because these issues require immediate attention. Many countries are facing serious challenges such as poverty, poor healthcare, poor education, and climate change. Investing public money in these things would improve people’s quality of life and support long-term social and boost economic development. Moreover, many rivers and oceans are contaminated with plastic waste and other harmful chemicals which cause drinking water problems in many countries around the world. Agencies should focus on these things first because water is essential source of human life and they should build some projects to solve these problems rather than exploring space. For instance, allocating more funds to hospitals and schools can provide better medical treatment and education, directly benefit citizens and create a healthier and more productive society.
In conclusion, although investing in space exploration can provide valuable scientific discoveries, I believe agencies should give greater priority to solving problems on Earth first. This would improve people’s lives and address more urgent issues.
