While some individuals argue that computer games have a positive effect on children, others believe that they have a negative effect. Nowadays, this is a widely debated issue. This essay will discuss both views before presenting my own perspective.
There are several reasons why some people believe that computer games have positive effects. The primary benefit is that they can increase critical thinking. There are many games where critical thinking is necessary; otherwise, you cannot progress further. By playing more, children can improve these important skills. Another important advantage is that they can enhance problem-solving skills. For example, many children play math-solving games, and as a result, they increase their problem-solving abilities, which can benefit their studies in real-life math and physics.
On the other hand, there are several reasons to oppose this view. Their main argument is that online games may reduce face-to-face communication, which can negatively affect their real lives. For example, when they are looking for a job or attending a job interview, they cannot communicate well because of their inexperience. Furthermore, playing games excessively negatively affects their health because they spend a large amount of time sitting in one place rather than playing outside on a playground, which ultimately may increase the risk of obesity. Therefore, proponents of this view are against computer games.
In conclusion, both views have valid arguments, and neither should be ignored. However, from my point of view, the positive effects of computer games outweigh the negative effects because they improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are really significant in this modern world.
