Technological progress has changed almost every aspect of modern life, including the way crimes are prevented and committed. While some people believe that technology makes society safer, others argue that it creates more opportunities for criminals. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why I believe technological development is more beneficial overall.
On the one hand, technology plays an important role in reducing crime. One of the main reasons is that modern security systems, such as CCTV cameras and facial recognition software, help the police identify criminals more quickly. In addition, online banking systems and mobile applications often use fingerprint or face identification, making it much harder for thieves to access other people’s money. As a result, technology can both prevent crimes and increase the chances of catching offenders.
On the other hand, technological development has also led to new forms of crime. Nowadays, cybercriminals can steal personal information, hack bank accounts, or spread online scams without leaving their homes. Furthermore, social media and messaging platforms sometimes allow criminals to communicate anonymously or target vulnerable people. Since many people store personal and financial information online, they may become victims of cybercrime more easily than in the past.
In my opinion, although technology has created new challenges, its advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Governments and technology companies continue to improve security systems, while people are becoming more aware of online risks. Therefore, I believe that technology is ultimately a powerful tool for fighting crime rather than encouraging it.
In conclusion, technological development can both reduce and increase crime. However, with proper laws, stronger security measures, and public awareness, its positive effects are likely to be greater than its negative consequences.
