Some people are of the opinion that studying arts in school has a positive impact on children’s growth while others believe that they can do something more productive instead. I certainly believe that arts is an essential subject at school level.
To begin with, students who have studied art as a subject in school have more potential to be creative and think out of the box. This is because when you are in an art class, you create something totally out of your imagination with no restriction. This process activates your creative and cognitive part of brain that helps you take on tasks in practical life with an original approach. Similarly, I myself have observed that my approach to learn new things and face problems is more unique than my friends who have no arts and craft background. Studies from CalTech University have shown proven results that students with an arts background take on problem solving with an innovative approach.
On the other hand, many people have a strong opinion that arts as a compulsory subject is a waste of time for students and instead they can learn some skill or indulge in a physical activity. They think that forcing a student into taking arts reduces their opportunity to learn a skill that can be beneficial in their practical life. This was observed in survey in Luton in 2017, that 28 percent parents want their children to learn a handy skill in school instead of arts.
Taking everything into account, some people think that arts as an essential subject improves brainstorming and cognition abilities while others have a viewpoint that students should have the freedom to learn any tangible skill instead. I personally believe in the former as it grooms into better prepared for practical life in general.
