In today’s contemporary world, the question of whether teachers will replaced by artificial intelligence and educational technology, or whether human educators will always be playing the major role in teaching is highly debated, as the technology development gets faster everyday. From my perspective, I believe that, even though, AI can be beneficial in many fields, it is unlikely to displace teaching professions due to its lack of empathy.
To begin with, the primary argument for substituting live instructors for artificial intelligence is that it can pay attention fully to all students in a class, which is almost impossible for human teachers. It analyzes student’s mistakes and progress, providing a custumized lesson plan depending on children’s level. For instance, learning apps use algorithms to repeat and practice questions that a user struggles with. Therefore, the machines are efficient in maximizing the student’s potential.
In contrast, AI and educational technologies lack of empathy, which is essential part of any education. Human teachers can feel when children face burnout, anxiety, or personal problems, what effects to their academic performances, and adjust teaching based on the mood of a class. In addition, live instructions motivate students when it is needed and provide geniune encouragement. For example, a teacher can notice a child’s withdrawal from the group and offer tailored support to prevent them from failure.
In conclusion, although, AI and educational technologies provide certain benefits, it cannot fully displace the real teachers, due to an absence of empathy. In my opinion, rather than replacing educators, technology should assisst them to offer an efficient educational system.
