It is often argued that charitable organisations should prioritise helping people within their own country, while others maintain that aid should be provided in those in need regardless of national boundaries. Although supporting local communities is undeniably important, I strongly believe that humanitarian assistance should not be restricted by nationality.
On the one hand, there are valid reasons why some people advocate for a domestic focus. This is primarily because authorities and citizens intensely feel a moral obligation to meticulously address their own potential issues first, such as homelessness, unemployment, natural disasters and wars, resulting in being incapable of concentrating on other countries, as from an ethical perspictive, their foremost support should be contributed to their personal growth rather than assisting non-native people. Allocating charitable resources locally, furthermore, can lead to more immediate and visible improvements in people’s quality of life. Therefore, due to personal accountabilities, there is a rising desire for contributing to one’s own enhancement.
On the other hand, limiting charitable efforts to national boundaries can be seen as ethically wrong, since every human deserves an equal right of receiving adequate aid during harsh periods, such as famine, starvation and natural disasters, despite residing in totally different regions. A case in point is Ukraine, as this coutry faced a severe war, resulting in a significant toll during harsh time, however, thanks to certain countries like America, this country successfully prevented starvation, people loss and upgraded its defence. This prime example can demonstrate benevolence and morality rather than merely self-serving. Taking care of non-domestic countries, therefore, plays a pivotal role, illustrating a human’ duty to support individuals irrespective of their location.
In my view, charitable organizations ought to adopt a global perspective. While it is reasonable to ensure that domestic needs are not neglected, it is equally essential to recognise those in the most desperate situations – regardless of where they live – deserve support. A balanced approach offering both local and universal help can be of great importance to implement this holistic method efficiently.
In conclusion, while local-oriented aid is critical from a governmental standpoint, I support a balanced way in which both ways are equally important, leading to a moral and well-developed resolution.
