There are various opinions related to how employees should dress in the office. While some argue that the only matter is the quality of work and dressing is unnecessary, I personally consider that a strict dress code should be followed in the workplace for several reasons.
One of these reasons is that it creates a professional atmosphere and enhances the organisation’s public image. It is important that employees try to seem more official, particularly in front of their clients, which, in turn, directly leads to preserving trust and confidence between them. For instance, if a worker wears casual clothes, such as shorts, in the office, it will potentially cause a negative impression on customers. Thus, it would put the business reputation of the company in danger. That is why, in order to protect the professional image of the workplace, a formal dress code policy should be enforced.
Apart from the aforementioned argument, a dress code is also applied to encourage simplicity and focus within the enterprise. It means that, without relevant rules on dressing, employees may dress down and provoke distractions. For example, if a person puts on unusual clothes, like a very colourful shirt, his coworkers may start to discuss him instead of properly performing their tasks. For that reason, to protect work ethics in the enterprise, employees should be motivated to be as simple as possible, preferring official attire. This also helps them spend less time and stress choosing appropriate outfits daily.
In conclusion, a strict dress code policy is an essential tool for employers to ensure professionalism and concentration in the workplace.
