Nowadays, pollution has become a major problem in many countries due to increasing industrialisation for the production of goods, heavy traffic on roads, the inadequate use of public transport, and people’s preference for travelling in their own vehicles. As a result, some people believe that individuals should take responsibility for protecting the environment in order to ensure a healthier life for citizens. On the other hand, others argue that the government should invest more in environmental protection to encourage a healthier lifestyle. While both perspectives are valid, I support the latter view because the government has greater financial resources and authority to protect the environment and reduce pollution in cities.
To begin with, several steps have been taken by the individuals to protect the environment. Firstly, individuals should reduce the use of plastic in day-to-day life, because waste of plastic may harm the environment by polluting the rivers, fertilize land. It takes hundreds of years of decomposition in the land. Consequently it may reduce the quality of land for the individuals who often struggle with lan for farming. Additionally, individuals should conduct tree plantation drives across many areas in cities. Conducting these tree plantation drives creates a community, encouraging more people to join and plant more trees. For example, local residents can organise a tree plantation campaign in a public park, where volunteers of all age groups participate together to increase green spaces and improve the quality of the environment.
However, other people believe that the government should take responsibility for preserving the environment. The government can invest in renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, which reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower carbon emissions. As a result, this helps combat global warming and creates a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations.Furthermore, the government should impose strict laws and regulations to control pollution. Industries and individuals who violate these regulations should face heavy fines, which would discourage environmentally harmful activities and help preserve the environment. For example, factories that release untreated chemical waste into rivers should be heavily fined or temporarily shut down until they comply with environmental standards.
As per my perspective, I support the latter view because the government has greater financial resources and legal authority to preserve the environment. Therefore, government action plays a crucial role in protecting the environment for present and future generations.
