It is thought that the price of fuel for private vehicles should be increased by governments to solve environmental problems. From my perspective, I am not convinced by this statement and I suggest that there are other useful solutions that I would like to discuss more in this essay.
I disagree with the view that increasing the cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles to solve environmental challenges for several reasons. First, this statement can deepen the gap between the rich class and the poor. Specifically, if the cost is escalated, the wealthy still can afford and have cars to commute while the others only can go on foot. In addition, this trend can deteriorate the nation’s economy. This is because the descent in the number of people using fuels may cause the disappearance of some fuel companies and manufacturers.
I believe that there are other better solutions to deal with environmental problems. Firstly, governments should invest more money to develop public transport systems, such as trains, buses and bicycles. As a result, this progress might attract individuals to use public transports instead of private vehicles. Secondly, local authorities should have policies to limit the daily number of cars traveling on the road. For instance, in China, the government allows only 100 cars in each city to transport every day; therefore, the air standard in this country has improved dramatically.
In conclusion, I disconcur with the opinion that the cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles should be leaped by governments due to economic degradation and the rich-poor gap in society. Moreover, I assume that spending more money on improving public transports and hindering the daily quantity of cars commuting on the road are more effective.
