There is a common belief that there should be a rise in fuel’s cost for vehicles as a solution to environmental problems. In my opinion, although this statement is true, I would consider some other effective measures which may bring more benefits.
On the one hand, raised taxes on petrol would lead to two main environmental benefits. Firstly, drivers and motorists would use their vehicles less, walk more and limit the length of their journey. As a result, less exhaust fume, which causes air pollution, will be released to the environment. Secondly, if the fuel price is too high, public transports, bicycle and travelling on foot would be the best choice for people to transport. As we still need to travel to work, to school or other purposes, we need a transport that is cheaper and more eco-friendly.
On the other hand, though this solution has some merit on the surface, it still carries flaw. If people use their personal transports less, whether they choose public transports as their main transportation is still remain a question. Also, more goods and humans would be transported by railway or airway, which release much more waste than personal vehicles. So beside this measure, there are many solutions to environmental problems that governments should adopt. They can support the development of electric cars or any cars that operated by renewable energy, which are the cheaper and more eco-friendly alternatives to petrol cars. Moreover, decreasing the price of public transports could encourage citizens to use them more.
In conclusion, increasing the cost of gas for transportation a great way that the authorities use to deal with a huge quantity of environmental issues. However, more measures should be considered in order to completely solve environmental problems.
