Some people believe that the government should pay part of the cost of fruits and vegetables to make them cheaper for everyone. However, others think that it is better to put a tax on unhealthy food like burgers, pizza, and fried chicken. From my point of view, I agree with the second idea because taxing junk food can bring more benefits for both people and the government.
Nowadays, many people like eating fast food. It is tasty, cheap, and easy to buy everywhere. For example, popular fast-food chains such as KFC, McDonald’s, and Pizza Hut attract millions of customers every day. Although these meals contain some useful ingredients like meat and vegetables, they are often high in sugar, salt, and fat. In the short term, eating too much junk food can increase blood pressure and blood sugar levels. In the long term, it can cause serious health problems such as obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. This shows that fast food is convenient but very harmful if people eat it too often.
On the other hand, taxing junk food can help reduce these problems. If the government pays for fruits and vegetables, it would cost a large amount of money and might not be fair to everyone. However, when the government adds a tax on unhealthy food, people will think twice before buying it. This will encourage them to eat more healthy meals instead. In addition, the government can use the money from the tax to improve public services such as hospitals, schools, and public transport. For instance, some European countries have already used this method, and the results show that people there are now choosing healthier food options.
In conclusion, fruits and vegetables are very important for our health, but making junk food more expensive is a better solution. By raising the tax on unhealthy food, the government can help people change their eating habits and build a healthier society.
