The health and education sectors have been areas of neglect in the past decade. I agree with the proposition that government and organisations should allocate more funds to these sectors rather than to arts and culture. This essay will provide reasons to support this agreement.
Arts includes creative arts, visual arts and entertainment. These are areas of tourism and spending money to improve these sectors has some benefits. One of the reasons why people visit other countries is to explore their arts. For example, the Calabar carnival is a carnival held in Lagos, Nigeria. Yearly, tens of thousands of people from all over the world visit the country to participate in this event. When foreigners visit a country, it positively affects the economy and in turn makes life more comfortable for the masses.
On the other hand, when the health and education systems are poor it negatively influences the country. If there are no schools or If they are ill-equipped, the literacy level of the nation will drop. If the hospitals in a country lack the basic amenities to treat patients, there will be an increase in mortality rates. In addition to that will be a reduction in the workforce. Providing hospitals with necessary amenities will lead to an improvement in the health of the individuals. Besides that, people from other countries may want to come for medical treatments which will improve the economy of the country. For instance, in India, millions of people from all over the world visit yearly to receive medical care. This has lowered inflation and has improved the living conditions of the people.
In conclusion, I believe more focus should be given to the health and education systems. If there are no basic infrastructure in the hospitals and schools, it will cause an increase in number of deaths, increase emigration and lower the workforce.
