Band 6+: Some people think that governments should invest more money in education than in the arts. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some individuals hold the opinion that education should be funded more money than the arts. I completely agree with the statement because education is crucial for innovation and sustenance of the civilization.

Primarily, education fosters innovation. It is important because every creation of mankind can be attributed to innovative people who gathered knowledge in different sectors. Since the contemporary civilization is in need of more advancements in fields such as computer science, engineering and medicine, subsidizing them more offers more benefits than supporting the arts. That’s the reason why big tech companies like Google and Amazon spend billions of dollars annually to invest in potential innovations. Because arts garner a lot of attention in public and can sustain themselves, governments should not be distracted from empowering education.

Furthermore, it takes huge amounts of resources to sustain the knowledge humanity has obtained for generations. Universities, laboratories, schools depend on finance and investment. Actually, keeping one middle school functioning costs $2 million dollars annually in the UK. A civilization survives as long as knowledgable and experienced professionals from different institutions work collaboratively to keep it alive. The Great Pyramids of Egypt is a great example of lost civilizations. People know it was built by humans, but haven’t been able to explain how and why it was erected – it still remains a mystery.

In conclusion, there is an ongoing debate on whether governments should invest more on education or the arts. I firmly believe that education holds the highest priority because it is essential for innovation and is costly a lot to keep.
