Society has not changed significantly as some might think. Firstly, it is because people still have to know communication skills. It does not really matter how much of a genius someone is, or how good can someone handle some problems by himself, everyone will still need to speak with each other, since there may be some obstacles in life that are simply cannot be solved by one person. For instance, carrying heavy things. One may be strong, but he definitely will not be able to lift a car by himself.
While modern community might have preserved the bond, which is linking everyone in the universe, that bond is not what it used to be. First of all, it is all about technology.
