Recently, all over the news and Social Media, a heated debate concerns the people’s dependence or independence. Some people argued that the modern society is characterized by an increasing dependence on each other, others argued the opposite idea. This essay would discuss boths the points of view.
To begin, the dependence or independence of the society has always been a controversial issue for the society, not only related to the century of observation but also to the country’s financial status from which this definition of the society has been given. Supporters of the independence of the society came from the north and wealthier countries such as Sweden or Norway, in which this idea is intrinsic in the culture itselfs. For example, from the 18th birthday, youngsters receive economic support from the government to leave their parents’ house, meanwhile continuing studies. As a consequence, this allows them to acquire responsibilities, housing as well as money business, to develop new skills and to be completely independent.
However, supporters of the idea of dependent society have argued that the independence of these societies are strictly related to governments’ economic aids and are not related to the individuals itselfs. For instance, countries such as Italy, that do not give economic help to citizens, may not perceive themselves as an independent society in which juveniles acquire independence from the family. In addition, dependent society idea supporters illustrate society as a complex huge group of individuals who influenced each other and mainly in the increasingly connected society of Social Medias. As the evidence has shown, it goes without saying that social media and the Internet have introduced a boost in the psychological problems of society, owing to the continuing judgments on body shape and all things that people upload on social media.
I strongly believe that this modern society is more dependent rather than independent. Moreover, our dependence on each other is not related to economic aspects, but to the fact that as individuals who have emotions, we are hurted if we receive careless judgments and social media have amplified this aspect. To conclude, this idea is related to not only the part of the world in which people live but also to a personal aspect.
