Children may act inappropriately if they are not raised in a correct manner. It is often claimed that children must be punished by their parents to prevent misbehavior. I completely disagree with this view because this can harm a child’s development and there are alternative ways to teach discipline.
To begin with, Harsh discipline is harmful for the child’s mental growth. If parents always punish their children for their misbehavior, they start fearing parents. As a result, they might stop playing, enjoying, silent and slowly turn into introvert. Moreover, children learn from what they see or experience. Therefore, punishing them can make them more aggressive and behave badly. For example, a recent study in the United Kingdom proves, nursery students that are often disciplined by their parents tends to be bossy and aggressive toward other classmates.
On the other hand, there are many effective ways to discipline children without punishing them as follows. Firstly, a child learns from their surroundings. Hence, parents can teach their children morals and values by abiding these by themselves. Secondly, If the child makes any mistake instead of punishing, they can tell them why their action is wrong and inspire them to behave well by giving rewards for their good work. The verbal communication between parents and children significantly improve their actions where punishing makes them disobedient. Because it strengthens affection, bonding and understandings between them.
To sum up, Parents should not punish their beloved children as it harms their mental growth is several ways. Instead, they are supposed to teach them values, morals and encourage them to behave politely with actions toward their surroundings.
