In recent times, people’s opinions differ as to whether the prevalent of using technology devices for communication has had a bad impact on reading and writing skills of the youth. I personally agree partly with that idea, and in this essay, I will shed light on my opinion with certain examples.
There are two main reasons why some people believe that computers and phones could be harmful for reading and writing skills when it is used to daily talk. Firstly, there is no denying that the language which is used on these devices becomes more and more informal. For instance, the youngster prefer using abbreviate sentences, and emojis on mobile phones when they write, instead of the formal written language in letters that was in the past. Secondly, online reading may not only reduce people’s comprehend ability, but also their memories about the content of paragraphs.
Inspite of these above arguments, I support the assertion that communicating by using computers and mobile phones would be beneficial for society. It is obvious that it helps people exchange information quickly, and more conveniently, which replaced entire letters in the previous period. In other words, instead of waiting for a long time to receive responses, people can write and send it immediately by emails or messages. Moreover, online communication eliminates language obstacles because of these transfer applications. This means people could communicate with foreigners around the world without difficulties.
In conclusion, although it might seem sensible for negative impacts on reading and writing skills if young people abuse computers and smartphone for communication, I believe that it can be a good development if individuals know how to harmonize it.
