Nowadays, some people believe that we should not underestimate the pivotal role of having enough spare time for extracurricular activities that help us to relax, such as reading or doing word puzzles. However, others claim that instead of spending time on activities, it is better to rest. My essay agrees that doing extracurricular activities during leisure time is better for our brain cells than just relaxing and doing nothing.
I think that it is a widespread misapprehension that spare time should be wasted on relaxation or spent idly. In our world, where multi-tasking plays a crucial role in our lives, giving prominence to leisure can be equated with being lazy. Moreover, there is not enough scientific evidence to claim that resting the mind is more beneficial than engaging in some extracurricular activity. Based on my own experience, alternating some extracurricular activities with studying or working can stimulate the brain cells and generate happiness hormones, such as serotonin and endorphins, thereby enhancing our concentration and cognitive skills.
On the other hand, we cannot deny the importance of resting the mind during leisure time. It is crucial to remember to rest the mind and get at least 7 hours of sleep every day. Needless to say, we only physically relax when we sleep. During that time, our body recovers and our brain refreshes. However, during daytime we we feel exhausted, we can entertain ourselves, by doing some activities, such as playing the piano or listening to music. Such kind of activities increase our productivity and even improve our health condition.
In conclusion, although we cannot deny that resting the mind during our spare time is crucial, it cannot substitute sleep. Therefore, during the daytime, when we feel overwhelmed and mentally drained, it is better to engage in other activities that will definitely bring peace to our minds and make us more productive.
