It is thought that the killing of animals is not necessary any longer to satisfy people’s need for meat, medicine and clothing. Although I admit that animals are used to provide us with necessary nutrients found on meat, fulfil our needs for clothes and medicine, I believe that our needs cannot justify their suffering, so it is time to switch to alternatives.
On one hand, there are some good grounds for killing animals. Firstly, a great number of animals are raised and slaughtered to provide meat, such as cattle for beef, sheep for lamb and chickens for poultry. These are necessary to take in nutrients, vitamins and minerals, the lack of which may affect our health and survival. Furthermore, some medicines are based on animal parts, used in the treatment of various illnesses. For example, from their bones are made pills and drugs. Similarly, animal parts, especially their fur, can be used in the production of clothes such as coats.
Having said that animals do not have to die for our needs because we have other ways round. To commence, as the over-consumption of meat on regular basis may cause serious health ailments such as heart diseases or cancer, let’s make a change in our diet, reducing meat consumption considerably. To offset the gap, starting vegetarian diets can also be equally effective because tofu, for example, can supply necessary nutrients found on meat, so it can be used as substitute for meat. Moreover, in the treatment of illnesses, plant-based medicines are receiving substantial endorsement nowadays. Particularly, ginseng has remarkable curative features, used by medical practitioners widely. Lastly, to make clothes, we need to use artificial materials, instead of killing tigers and minks for fur.
In conclusion, animals can provide for our needs for meat, but veggies can also. In addition, it is possible to produce medicine and clothes from animals parts, but from plants too. Therefore, it is time to change the way.
