Band 6+: Some people think that it’s a good idea to socialise with work colleagues during evenings and weekends. Other people think it’s important to keep working life completely separate from social life. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In this contemporary era, there are conflicting views where one section of the society is of the belief that hanging out with fellow workers after working hours is a great idea, while others condemn and say that there is a dire need to have difference between personal and professional life. This essay intends to discuss both opinions along with my own perception in the forthcoming paragraphs.

On the one hand, the predominant idea to support the former notion is the strong bond work colleagues share when they have an opportunity to interact with each other off the clock. To expound it, having social interactions during evening or on weekends among workers provide a chance to them to get to know each other, leading to better understanding. Moreover, this leads to the better environment at work place as the chances of conflicts among employees get reduced, inducing them to work in groups. The best example for this is of many organizations where team mates have gathering after office hours, consequently there is great interpersonal relationship and team building due to the sense of feeling connected. Thus, it is propitious to meet colleagues after working hours.

On the other hand, the preponderant reason to justify the latter assertion is the adverse impact on the personal life. To explicate it, engaging themselves into the official gathering on evenings or on Saturday, Sundays provide no time to the employees to have time for their personal relations such as family and friends. Not only this, there is detrimental effect on the work too as no separation of working life and social life tend to indulge coworkers into gossips at working place which hinders their work. To cite an example, it is generally observed team mates who tend to socialize after office hours remain busy in the personal talks during their working time, hampering their productivity. Hence, it is imperative to keep apart the social life from the working life.

To conclude, undoubtedly, both of the perspectives are the valid to their own extent, nevertheless, I opine that having social gatherings with fellow workers are not wrong but these should be in such a manner which does not become the hurdle in the work of a organization.
